The holidays are rapidly approaching and, as unlikely as it seems, this year is no different than any other year in one very specific way; you want your skin to glow for all those special occasions on your calendar. While those occasions may be intimate, virtual, or in-person requiring a mask, Faces understands that looking and feeling good about your skin is always important.
In this blog our Medical Aestheticians and Nurse Injectors outline some of their best tips for beautiful, glowing skin and a more youthful appearance.
What can I do to maintain glowing skin between facials?
To keep your skin glowing and ready for those spontaneous invitations, follow the advice of your Aesthetician and be diligent about your daily skincare regimen. Overnight resurfacing treatments and heavy hydration can be included for those needing a boost.
Our Skincare Team offers the following suggestions. Consider incorporating a gentle retinol product, such as SkinBetter Science AlphaRet Overnight Cream. Retinol not only helps exfoliate the skin to improve texture and tone, it also stimulates elastin and collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser and Glycolic 10 Overnight also packs a powerful punch; the cleanser helps by exfoliating dull, rough skin, while the overnight treatment promotes cellular turnover. The results are a clearer, brighter complexion and healthy, glowing skin.
For extra hydration, our Aestheticians suggest one of these two products: Obagi Hydrate Luxe Moisturizer, or SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore. For immediate moisturization, Obagi Hydrate Luxe Cream reduces water loss and helps hold water on the skin’s surface. Skin that’s well hydrated appears firmer and simply more radiant. Triple Lipid Restore is an anti-aging treatment that restores lipids at the cellular level and nourishes dry skin, resulting in visible improvement in your skin’s smoothness and an overall glow.
Another quick treatment to help perk up your skin is Dermaplane. This manual, non-invasive resurfacing technique removes the superficial layers of the skin and vellus hair, commonly known as “peach fuzz”. The removal of the epidermal layer of skin stimulates new collagen growth, giving one’s complexion a healthier glow. Dermaplaning is included in all our skincare treatments, but can be offered as a stand-alone service. It does require a medical-grade scalpel and should only be performed by a licensed aesthetician.
Which facial is good for an instant glow?
How does a Diamond Glow Treatment sound? It even has the word “glow” in its name. Previously known as Dermalinfusion, this treatment is the latest addition to our skincare services. The innovative technology behind the Diamond Glow is a process that nourishes the skin and promotes the regeneration of new cells while eliminating any dirt or residue that may be clogging the pores or sticking to the skin. Even after one treatment, your skin looks brighter, fresher, healthier, smoother and has a more even skin tone.
We would be remiss if we didn’t also mention the HydraFacial and the OxyGeneo Super Facial, both of which get “glowing” reviews! The HydraFacial treatment is performed using a handheld wand with interchangeable “HydroPeel” tips. The wand has several functions, including the application of a variety of skincare products such as exfoliants, peptides, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body. Following a HydraFacial treatment patients describe a more glowing, radiant look to their skin and that their skin feels much cleaner and healthier, not to mention more hydrated.
Our Aestheticians affectionately describe the OxyGeneo Super Facial as our “Event Facial”. A more even skin tone, healthier, firmer skin, tighter pores, a vibrant complexion and a more youthful glow are what you can expect immediately following an OxyGeneo Facial. The magic happens in the second stage of this three-part process when tiny carbon dioxide (CO2) bubbles applied to the skin burst, creating a physiological reaction that drives oxygen-rich blood to the surface of the skin. The results are beautiful.
How long do the results from a facial last?
First, understand that not all facials are created equal. A facial treatment performed by a Licensed Medical Aesthetician can be quite different than what you might experience at a day spa or resort. Secondly, as with many things in life, and skin care is no exception, lasting results come from regular treatments and a good, daily skincare regimen with quality products. That being said, noticeable results from any one of the above described facial treatments may last 48 to 72 hours.
For optimal results schedule your facial for early in the day or late in the afternoon on the day before that special event or party.
Can BOTOX® and fillers make me look younger?
Have you ever noticed that someone tends to age quicker in your eyes when you don’t see them quite as often? Some of your holiday functions this year will likely be with people you haven’t seen much lately. Luckily, BOTOX® and fillers can help restore some of your youthfulness and your party companions will be none the wiser. We’ll focus here on the upper half of your face, as that may be what other guests and party goers see first if masks are required.
BOTOX® injections block signals that cause certain muscles to contract in the face. When the muscles temporarily cease contracting, it smooths out wrinkles and lines and makes the facial skin appear softer and far less aged. BOTOX® has a wide range of clinical uses, but is particularly helpful in improving the appearance of forehead lines, bunny lines (the wrinkles and lines that form when you scrunch your nose), Crow’s feet, a drooping brow, and those worry lines between your brows.
A BOTOX® injection appointment typically only takes between 10-20 minutes, with virtually no downtime. Very minor bruising may occur around the injection site, but this will be long gone before your party or event. Desired results from an injection will typically start appearing after about 5-7 days. Dysport®, another neurotoxin that is very similar to BOTOX® in the way it works, with similar results, has a much quicker onset time of just 1-2 days.
Dermal fillers are another great option for creating a more natural, smoother, youthful look. Designed to help sculpt and shape areas that have lost facial volume, they are a great choice for sunken cheeks and tear troughs. Made from three basic components that are all naturally occurring substances: biosynthetic polymer, collagen, and hyaluronic acid (HA), fillers are safe, convenient and often produce remarkable results you can instantly see. While dermal fillers do not produce permanent results, some produce results that will last for more than a year.
Although results from fillers injections can be realized before you leave our clinic, our Nurse Injectors recommend scheduling these types of appointments at least a week in advance. Filler injections can be done quickly, with minimal discomfort, but can cause mild bruising and swelling in a few select patients.
