BOTOX® | Dysport® | Daxxify® in Jackson, MS
People turn to anti-wrinkle injections because they want to look younger for many different reasons. Some people in their mid-twenties notice subtle signs of aging while looking in the mirror one morning. Others are looking forward to a significant life event and want to look youthful and vibrant for the occasion. Some people just want to experience a renewed sense of self-confidence and feel comfortable in their skin. No matter your reason for wanting to look younger, cosmetic facial injections offer a safe, effective way to target areas of the face to create natural, youthful looks.
Cosmetic facial injections, or what are commonly known as neurotoxins, undergo years of clinical studies proving their effectiveness and safety. In 2002, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved BOTOX® as the first neurotoxin for cosmetic use. Like BOTOX®, Dysport® is also a neuromodulator that gently smooths out dynamic wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the small muscle groups that cause them. We now also offer Daxxify®, the newest neuromodulator on the market.
At our facial plastic surgery practice in Ridgeland, MS, we have three medical professionals—one board-certified facial plastic surgeon, a nurse practitioner, and a certified nurse anesthetist—who can administer neurotoxins for the improvement of fine lines and wrinkles. Together, our professionals have injected thousands of patients. Appointments are easy and convenient to arrange, and the results can help you look your best! Come see how our team of medical aesthetic experts blends art and medicine to highlight your natural beauty!
How Does BOTOX® Work?
Many cosmetic skincare and facial treatments seek to reverse or prevent signs of aging by targeting collagen and elastin production or by using light and heat to target skin pigmentation and sun damage. BOTOX® works in a different way: by targeting the muscles responsible for many of the fine lines and wrinkles that spread across your face as you age.
BOTOX® injections block signals that cause certain muscles to contract in the face. When the muscles temporarily cease contracting, it smooths out wrinkles and lines and makes the facial skin appear softer and far less aged. Because of the way BOTOX® treats wrinkles, it won’t be effective for wrinkles caused by excessive sun damage. Our team of experts will examine your skin closely during your consultation to make sure you get the best cosmetic treatment based on your individual conditions. Some patients may be able to achieve “lifted” looks in areas of their face when BOTOX® is combined with dermal filler treatments. We will discuss the best options for you based on your skin type, facial features, and degree of aging.
BOTOX® injections have a wide range of clinical uses, from helping with excessive sweating to helping stroke patients recover to treating migraines. Cosmetically, BOTOX® facial injections are used to help improve the appearance of:
- Forehead lines
- Bunny lines (wrinkles and lines that form when you scrunch your nose)
- Crow’s feet
- Drooping brow
- Frown lines
- Smile lines
- Worry lines that look like the number “11” between your brows
Most people are good candidates for BOTOX®. During your consultation, we’ll ask about your history of medical conditions, any medications you’re currently taking, and allergies. Women who are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant soon, or are breastfeeding should not have BOTOX® injections.
“First time getting BOTOX® and the Nurse Injector explained everything perfectly. She was precious and the way she administered the injections was absolutely pain free. Ten minutes in the waiting room, 15 minutes getting treatment, total time in and out 30 minutes or less. I’ll be back.” – N.W. – Facebook Review
How Does Dysport® Differ from BOTOX®?
Many of our patients ask us whether Dysport® is better than BOTOX®, but there isn’t a clear-cut answer to this question. Both Dysport® and BOTOX® have unique advantages, so which compound you choose will depend on your individual goals.
One of the primary differences between these two compounds is their time of onset: Dysport® acts more quickly than BOTOX®; our patients report seeing results in as little as two to three days (as compared to five to seven days with BOTOX®). If you’re hoping to look your best for a last-minute event, Dysport® is probably your best option. Some evidence suggests that Dysport® also lasts a bit longer than BOTOX®, particularly after repeated treatments.
In terms of aesthetics, Dysport® produces slightly more subtle results than BOTOX®. This makes it a great choice for younger patients and for patients who are nervous about trying neuromodulators for the first time. Dysport® has a 97% patient satisfaction rate, and it’s currently used in 69 countries, so we feel confident that you’ll love your results.
How Does Daxxify® Differ from BOTOX®?
Daxxify® and BOTOX® are neuromodulators used to reduce the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet, but they differ in several key aspects. These differences include formulation, longevity in some patients, and mode of action, making each treatment unique.
First, the formulation of Daxxify® sets it apart from BOTOX®. Daxxify® utilizes a specialized blend of peptides and potent ingredients that stimulate collagen production and target multiple aging skin concerns. Another important difference in their formulation is that Daxxify® does not contain any human or animal products.
Second, Daxxify® offers a potential advantage in terms of longevity for some individuals. While BOTOX® typically lasts three to four months before a touch-up is required, Daxxify® may provide slightly longer results. For patients with a positive response, this prolonged duration means fewer injections, reduced maintenance, and a more cost-effective choice for facial enhancement.
Ultimately, the choice between Daxxify® and BOTOX® depends on individual preferences and desired outcomes. While BOTOX® is well-established and has a proven track record, Daxxify® offers a unique approach with the potential for longer-lasting benefits and comprehensive rejuvenation. A Faces consultation will help determine which treatment aligns best with your desired results and satisfaction.
Frequently Asked Questions About BOTOX®
Many patients are surprised to find BOTOX® injections don’t cause nearly as much discomfort as they’d assumed. You’ll feel a small pinch, and different areas of the face may be more sensitive than others, but in general, discomfort from the injection is minor. Ice or topical anesthetic creams can be applied to the injection site to increase your comfort, but most patients find they simply don’t need any.
The results of your BOTOX® facial injection will typically start appearing after about 5-7 days. The results are not permanent but will last up to 3-4 months. With repeated BOTOX® treatments, the appearance of lines and wrinkles will further diminish as your facial muscles become more accustomed to being relaxed.
BOTOX® is the brand name for a prescription botulinum toxin product called OnabotulinumtoxinA. There are other botulinum toxin products, such as Jeuveau® and Xeomin®, and the ones we carry at our facial plastic surgery clinic called Dysport®, and now Daxxify®.
BOTOX® injection appointments typically take between 10-20 minutes, and there’s virtually no downtime after you leave our office. You may experience some very minor bruising around the injection site, but most patients can go back to work and resume their normal schedule with a few exceptions. Avoid working out or strenuous activity immediately after your BOTOX® appointment, and don’t rub the injection site for at least half a day afterward. Some patients report experiencing short-term headaches after injections, but this is a rare occurrence.
The cost of BOTOX® varies depending on how many units of the product you need. During your initial consultation with our expert injectors, they will help determine how many units of BOTOX® are necessary to achieve your aesthetic goals and work within your budget.
BOTOX® and dermal fillers effectively complete two different anti-aging tasks, so it’s not a question of which works better—it’s about what you’re hoping to achieve. BOTOX® is a neuromodulator that temporarily disrupts the brain’s signals to the muscles that cause wrinkles, relaxing them so you can no longer make those repetitive facial expressions.
Dermal fillers are an injectable solution that plumps the area beneath your skin. Rather than stopping the muscles from moving, like BOTOX® does, dermal fillers replace the volume you have lost through the aging process.
If you’re looking to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, BOTOX® is the better option. If you need to replace lost volume or feel like your skin is becoming loose or sagging, dermal fillers are a better option.
Although BOTOX® requires much less time for treatment and recovery and only costs a fraction of the cost of a traditional surgical facelift, it will not make you look like you’ve had a facelift. A facelift is a better option for you if you’re experiencing significant wrinkles and skin sagging and want a longer-lasting improvement. Discussing your concerns and goals with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon will help you decide what treatments you should consider.
Dysport® treatment is quick, easy, and painless for most patients. Before administering Dysport® injections, we use a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. Our patients prefer this approach because they don’t even feel Dysport® being injected. Some providers will mark the injection sites with a felt-tipped pen to ensure flawless precision. Tiny amounts of Dysport® are then injected at the marked locations. The entire treatment process usually only takes 15 minutes, and patients are free to return to all of their normal activities afterwards.
Most people don’t experience any side effects after having Dysport® injections. Like BOTOX®, Dysport® has been used for over 25 years, so we know this compound is very safe. You may notice some slight redness or swelling around your injection sites, but this results from the injection process, not Dysport® itself. You can use a cool compress to treat these symptoms, and they should go away within a few hours.
In rare cases, patients have experienced a mild headache after Dysport® treatment. If this happens to you, feel free to use an over-the-counter pain reliever to restore your comfort. Avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 hours after having Dysport® injections is the best way to prevent headaches, bruising, and swelling.
Though Dysport® creates excellent results on its own, we sometimes recommend combining this treatment with other injectables, like dermal fillers. Dermal fillers amplify facial volume and fill in static wrinkles, effectively lifting and smoothing patients’ facial features. Combining both types of injectables produces comprehensive anti-aging benefits similar to those of a mini-facelift. This approach to treatment is therefore often called a “liquid facelift.” Liquid facelifts are the perfect choice for patients with busy schedules and for those who don’t feel ready for surgery.
Daxxify® has the same active component as BOTOX® and Dysport®, but it has a different peptide coat that may cause it to have a longer effect.
It may work in some cases where BOTOX® does not, but it is a very similar product and may not work in all cases. The best way to find this is to try it and see what happens.
Daxxify®, like any aesthetic treatment, may have some potential side effects, although they are typically minimal and temporary. Common side effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site, which usually subsides within a few days. In rare cases, individuals may experience headaches or muscle weakness such as a droopy eyelid or brow, which are generally mild and transient.
The cost of Daxxify® varies depending on how many units of the product you need. During your initial consultation with our expert injectors, they will help determine how many units of Daxxify® are necessary to achieve your aesthetic goals and work within your budget.
